        There are a lot of things going on in this map style, but label masks mostly affect rail lines and potentially roads

      These masks ensure that rail lines are not drawn crossing through city labels. And I've also used masks to keep the inside of the large city markers free of both rails and roads

    To achieve this, I put another label with a circle character ◍ right on top of the marker. This color can be made transparent and the label mask will still be applied
